Purple Lemon Photo Basics Workshops
It’s time for another round of Photo Basics Workshops! We’ve got two classes available on February 23, 2019 — Cell Phone Photography and Manual Photography with your DSLR or Mirrorless camera.
These small photography classes have a relaxed atmosphere for light-hearted but effective learning of photography basics. We cover a lot of ground, but aim to keep it approachable.
Wondering if these classes are for you?
If you want your photos of your kids, your lunch, your work projects, your date night, or your day-to-day to improve, this is for you. If you take pictures for your blog, this is for you. If you want to take pictures of that pretty tree or breathtaking landscape on your family adventure, this is for you. If your boss wants you take pictures for that next project, this is for you. If you take too many pictures of your kids standing in front of that tree at that special place you went to and none of them shine, this is for you. If you take vacations, this is for you.
What equipment do I need?
For the cell phone class, all you need is a cell phone. You could probably even take this class with a point and shoot camera and get alone just fine. It can be old and imperfect. (Mine is.) It can be new and fancy. Principles are the same.
For the DSLR/Mirrorless class, you can have any camera that has manual settings. It will be easiest to follow along with a camera that has visible settings on a dial on the top or back of the camera (rather than all inside in the camera’s menus), but you can still get a lot out of the class without that style.
What will we learn?
In the cell phone class, we talk about how to use your cell phone as a tool to photograph your daily life. A cell phone has limits, though, so we address how to use light, timing, and composition to increase, rather than decrease, the quality of your pictures. We do some light hands-on work and demos to help you make sense of it all.

In the DSLR/Mirrorless class, we walk through the camera’s basic functions, and consider how light, composition, and timing affect the photos we take. Though similar topics, they are covered differently in this class, with more depth and specifics for manual adjustments. This photo class also has time for hands-on work and demos.
Both classes are lightly customized to the people in the class and the subjects you photograph, so come with questions and problems to solve and brainstorm together.
Other practical details:
This is in the Saint Louis area. It will likely be in our home studio, but class size will determine final location.
For those attending both classes, there is a break for lunch, but it is not provided. You can bring a lunch or zip out to get something.
